The Prime Minister has appointed David Mach to the Board of the National Portrait Gallery with effect from 21 August 2006 for a period of four years.
Biographical Note
David Mach is a sculptor who has held solo exhibitions in London, Glasgow, Warsaw, New York, Chicago and Tel-Aviv. He is now working towards solo exhibitions in Hong Kong and Paris. He has participated in group exhibitions in, among other locations, Antwerp, Helsinki, Montreal, Kiev, Taiwan, Melbourne and Tokyo. He will have a one man show of his collage work at Jill George Gallery, London in October. David Mach became a Royal Academician in 1998 and was appointed Professor of Sculpture at the Royal Academy in 2000. He became Professor of Inspiration and Discovery at Dundee University in 2004, having already become an Honorary Doctor of Laws at the University in 2002, and also became an Honorary Royal Scottish Academician in 2004. He was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1988.
David Mach holds no other public appointments and has not carried out any political activity in the last five years.

The Gallery was looking for a practising artist with a strong interest in the work of the National Portrait Gallery.
The National Portrait Gallery holds the largest and most distinguished collection of portraits in the world. As an institution it fulfils a number of roles relating to the historic and contemporary aspects of this collection: research and academic role, and educational role and a wider role within public life.
The current membership of the Board is; Professor David Cannadine (Chairman), Zeinab Badawi, Nicholas Blake QC, Professor Robert Boucher CBE FREng, The Marchioness of Douro (Antonia), Amelia Fawcett CBE, Flora Fraser, Sir Nicholas Grimshaw CBE PRA, Professor Ludmilla Jordanova, Sir Christopher Ondaatje CBE OC, Professor Sara Selwood, Alexandra Shulman OBE, Sir John Weston KCMG, The Rt Hon Baroness Amos and David Ross.
The posts are not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.
The appointments have been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Appoints are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.
