PM thanks Lord Warner for outstanding work

The Prime Minister with Lord Warner at a Downing Street event The Prime Minister has thanked Minister Lord Warner for his work and dedication to the NHS following the health minister’s announcement of his retirement.

Mr Blair told Lord Warner that he had been "an outstanding Minister."

"I will be very sorry to lose you from government and you can be justly proud of all you have achieved as a Minister.

"As you say, health reforms have made a huge difference and you have made remarkable steps forward during your time in the department. I am very grateful for your substantial contribution."

Lord Warner said he had relished his "busy and enjoyable" three and a half years as a Department of Health Minister.

"It is entirely my decision and I will continue to strongly support the NHS reform agenda in the House of Lords and elsewhere."

The Prime Minister will announce his replacement in the New Year.
