The Queen has been pleased to appoint Captain The Honourable Gerald Maitland-Carew DL as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for the Area of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale upon the retirement of Dr June Paterson-Brown CBE.
Biographical Notes
Captain Maitland-Carew (aged 65) served in 15th/19th The Kings Royal Hussars from 1960 to 1972, when he resigned to care for the Family Estates. He is a Brigadier in The Royal Company of Archers, The Queen’s Body Guard for Scotland. He is a Member of the Border Area, Territorial Army Committee. He was Chairman of the Lauderdale and Galawater Branch of The Royal British Legion Scotland 1974 to 2004. He is Vice-President of the International League for Protection of Horses, having been Chairman 1999 to 2006. He is Chairman and host of the Scottish Horse Trials Championships at Thirlestane Castle since 1982. Chairman of Musselburgh Racecourse 1988 to 1998. He was elected a Member of the Jockey Club in 1987. Chairman of the Gurkha Welfare Trust of Scotland 1996 to 2003. He is a Trustee of Thirlestane Castle and Mellerstain House Charitable Trusts. He has been a Deputy Lieutenant since 1989.
Captain Maitland-Carew is married to Rosalind and they have two sons and a daughter.
