Tony Blair headed to the north-west of England to give his seal of approval to a new “extended school” which is benefiting all the local community.
Platt Bridge Community First in Wigan boasts a primary school for over 300 pupils, a Sure Start children’s centre, housing office and library [pictured].
There is also a health centre, housing GP surgeries and a pharmacy, which Mr Blair officially opened today.
Platt Bridge opened its doors last November, but today the PM was able to tour the impressive facilities for himself.
Research shows that offering extended services under one roof like Platt Bridge can have positive effects on children, adults and families.
The Government is supporting the development of more extended schools which will offer access to a range of services beyond the normal hours of the school day, delivered at the heart of the community.
