To progress Britain’s national interests and create a more just world, in 2008 we will work with our international partners to secure:
- $9 billion for education in 60 poor countries and a global commitment to train 10 million teachers by 2010
- $10 billion for health systems and 1 million new health workers in Africa
- $8 billion of aid for trade and infrastructure
- A new malaria plan to cut deaths from malaria by 75% by 2015
- A new World Bank fund to help poor countries cope with catastrophic climate change
- The release of Aung San Suu Kyi and talks on reconciliation and democracy in Burma
- The speedy deployment of the UN African Force in Darfur, with a ceasefire and the start of peace talks to address the underlying issues
- Be on course to be the first UK Government in history to spend 0.7% of national income on aid.
