The Prime Minister has encouraged entrepreneurs and businessmen to embrace the wealth of opportunities that will emerge from increased globalisation over the next 20 years and to use their energy to promote social action.
Speaking at the UK’s fifth annual Enterprise Week launch event on Monday, the PM told guests that he expects the world economy to double in size over the next two decades with the creation of up to a billion new jobs. Opportunities for social action are also increasing and the international community should be pressed “to work with us for common ends”, he added.
The Prime Minister said:
“We must never be in a situation where through our indifference or our inability to act together we cannot find the means by which a true international community can protect people in difficulty.
“So here we have this excellent chance working together, all of you here today, to combine the spirit of enterprise which we hold important, with the need for social action reflected in large numbers of social enterprises that exist in every part of the country and now run round the world.”
Global Entrepreneurship Week is running in more than 75 countries and is backed by a number of world leaders including President Sarkozy, Governor Schwarzenegger and Chinese business guru Pan Shiyi.
Also tying in with the London event is the first meeting of Chain Reaction, the new international initiative to encourage connections, collaboration, and a commitment to action for positive social change, on a global scale.
