PM awards a “Millie”

Gordon Brown today awarded the “Best Unit Award” to the Chinook Royal Air Force Unit as part of The Sun Newspaper’s and Ministry of Defence’s new National Military Awards.

The PM presented the award while on his visit to Afghanistan and did so on behalf of “the whole population”, he said.

The PM continued:

“I am proud of our British forces. I am proud that they are the best in the world. And I know that in every continent they are recognised to be the best in the world. They’re professional, they’re dedicated, they show enormous courage and I want to thank everyone, particularly those that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, for the difficult tasks they have undertaken and the successes they have achieved…”

“The Millies”, as they are known are going to become a new “British national institution” Mr. Brown stated. Nominees for the awards, which honoured sailors, soldiers, air personnel even Armed Forces animals, were also invited to a Downing Street reception to toast their courage.
