The Prime Minister has congratulated the winners of the national Health for Kids Awards for their great contribution to children’s health and wellbeing.

The winners, who came up with innovative ways to encourage young people to lead healthier lives, were invited to a special presentation at Downing Street.
The PM said the “great work” carried out by award winners was making a real difference to young people. He said the Government understands the importance of ensuring children are offered the best possible start in life:
“…which is why we launched our Child Health Strategy earlier this year and will continue to invest in initiatives such as our Change4Life programme and Sure Start Centres to support children and parents to lead a healthier lifestyle.”
The award winners were:
Healthy Eating
Youth Action Wiltshire: A programme to teach young carers how to prepare healthier meals for themselves and their families.
Personal & Social Health
Healthy Lifestyle Enterprise Project: Primary school pupils in Cheshire worked on a business offering that promoted healthy lifestyles.
Physical Activity
Southwark Tigers: A cheerleading club with a unique approach to encouraging health and fitness, particularly among adolescent girls.
Safety & Citizenship
‘Wasted’ alcohol education: Young people from Dumfries & Galloway produced an interactive DVD to allow their peers to make informed decisions about alcohol.
Emotional Health and Wellbeing
Time for Me: A Barnado’s project in the Midlands that supports children who live with someone who misuses drugs or alcohol.
