The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Alan Peter Winton, BA, PhD, Team Rector of Welwyn in the diocese of St Albans, and honorary Canon pf St Albans Abbey to the Suffragan See of Thetford, in the Diocese of Norwich, in succession to the Right Reverend David John Atkinson, BSc, AKC, PhD, MLitt, MA, MSOSc, on his resignation on the 16th September 2009.
Notes for Editors
Dr Winton (aged 50) studied at Sheffield University, and he trained for the ordained ministry at Lincoln Theological College. He served his title at Christ Church, Southgate, in London diocese from 1991 to 1995. From 1995 to 1999 he was Priest-in-Charge at St Paul’s Walden in the diocese of St Albans. From 1995 to 1999 he was Diocesan CME Officer. From 1999 to 2005 he was Rector at Welwyn with Ayot St Peter in St Albans diocese. Since 2005 he has been Team Rector at Welwyn.
He is married to Pippa, who is a Counsellor in Palliative Care and they have two adult daughters, Sarah and Tasha. His interests include literature, sport and art.
