Actions taken by the G20 group of nations will create or save an estimated 15 million jobs, Gordon Brown has said in a podcast marking the end of the most recent G20 Summit.
Speaking in Pittsburgh on Friday, the Prime Minister said leaders had made “big strides forward” in tackling climate change, nuclear weapons, terrorism and global poverty, and that the actions agreed at the last G20 in London had been successful.

The summit followed several days of discussion at the United Nations, where world leaders alo pledged billions to healthcare in the developing world and backed a UN Security Council resolution on the reduction and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.
The PM said:
“It’s been an important week for the world. At the United Nations in New York earlier this week, we made big strides forward in combating climate change, nuclear weapons, terrorism and global poverty. And here in Pittsburgh, leaders representing two thirds of the planet’s population have agreed to a global plan for jobs, growth and a sustained economic recovery.”
Leaders agreed today to launch an agreement for strong, sustainable economic growth, to create a global economy that will protect poor nations and the environment, and to fundamentally reform the banking sector, including reforming the bonus system. They welcomed a report by the Prime Minister on how the IMF and World Bank can support global growth.
The PM said:
“We must never go back to the past. As a result, we will bring to an end the unacceptable and disgraced old remuneration system, with bonuses now subject to deferral, to clawback and with the right of regulators to limit compensation.”
During the summit, the Prime Minister also joined US President Barack Obama and French President Nicolas Sarkozy in condemning Iran’s nuclear activity after the UK, the US and France revealed the existence of a second uranium-enrichment plant in the country.
