The best teachers from around the country have celebrated their achievements at a reception in Downing Street today.
The 2009 Teaching Award winners include exceptional teachers, headteachers, teaching assistants and school governors.
Among the group are Gold plato winners, who scooped top awards at the Teaching Awards UK ceremony ten days ago and 60 silver plato winners. The winners of the DCSF Award for Sustainable School of the Year 2009 also attended.
Speaking at the reception, the Prime Minister said:
“You never forget your teacher. You never forget the influence they had on you and you have the ability to change lives so what you do for our country and what you do for children and young people is so absolutely crucial. These Teaching Awards are a signal of the importance we attach to teaching and education.”
Caroline Evans, chief executive of the Teaching Awards said she was delighted that the Prime Minister was paying tribute to the ‘Class of 2009′.
“Our winners change children’s lives forever and, without them, schools would be very different places. They are terrific ambassadors for education who deserve recognition and who remind us to value all that is good in schools today.”
