The Prime Minister has today appointed John Lessore as a Trustee of the Board of the National Gallery for a term of four years.

Biographical Notes

After studying at the Slade School of Fine Art, John Lessore visited Italy on a travelling scholarship and lived in Paris before settling in London.

He has held numerous solo exhibitions including one at the National Portrait Gallery. Awards include a Korn Ferry International first prize in 1991.

He painted the portrait commission of the architects Sir Jeremy Dixon and Edward Jones in 1999 and is currently working on a group portrait of six members of the British Paralympic Team.

He holds no other public appointments and has not carried out any political activity in the last five years.

Notes for Editors

The National Gallery holds the nation’s collection of Western painting from the 13th to the early 20th centuries, representing all the major schools of painting by all the major artists.
