The Queen has approved the appointments of Ruth Deech and Angela Sarkis as Governors of the British Broadcasting Corporation, and the re-appointment of Ranjit Sondhi as Governor, and also as Chair of the English National Forum. All three appointments are for a period of four years from 23 October 2002.
Notes for Editors
- These are part time appointments. The Governor posts are remunerated at the level of £15,300 per year for a time commitment of one and a half days per week. The Governor and Chair of the English National Forum post is remunerated at the level of £20,400 for a time commitment of two days a week.
- Ruth Deech is a Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford and Principal of St Anne’s College. She is Chairman of the Oxford University Admissions Committee and is a Rhodes Trustee. She was Chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority 1994-2002 and is a former member of the Central Television Regional Advisory Committee. She has been a Woman of the Year five times. She has not undertaken any significant political activity in the last five years.
- Angela Sarkis is a senior manager and strategist with wide experience of working with public and voluntary sector organisations, charitable trusts and faith communities. She is a Non-Executive Director of the Home Office Correctional Services Board, a Commissioner on the House of Lords Appointments Commission and former Chief Executive to the Church Urban Fund. She has not undertaken any significant political activity in the last five years.
- Ranjit Sondhi was first appointed as a BBC Governor in July 1998. He is Chair of the English National Forum which advises the BBC Board of Governors on English regional programming issues and performance. He is a Senior Lecturer at Westhill College, Birmingham, and Chairman of the Heart of Birmingham NHS Primary Care Trust. He was formerly Deputy Chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality and has also served on the Independent Broadcasting Authority, the Radio Authority and various Government advisory committees. He has not undertaken any significant political activity in the last five years.
