You will find a number of links within the text which will take you to the relevant story or transcript as well as a few external links which you will find useful.
This week included the launch of the Health White Paper and a major international conference on the rebuilding of Afghanistan.
Healthy living
The Prime Minister launched the Health White Paper aimed at providing a service catering for the needs of the patient. He visited a primary care centre in North London to see for himself the benefits of community healthcare. Tony Blair also sent a text message of support to a national campaign which aims to increase the awareness of bowel cancer.
Afghanistan and Iraq
Tony Blair met President Karzai as they hosted a major international conference to produce a strategy to redevelop Afghanistan. Addressing the delegates, the PM said it was important to remember the great progress that had already been made.
He used his weekly PMQ’s to express his condolences for the two British soldiers killed in Iraq this week. During the session, he answered a wide variety of questions on topics including education, health, climate change and Iran.
Having your say
The PM’s push for getting people back to work continued with the government’s Minister for welfare reform, Margaret Hodge, taking part in a live Q and A on this website. If you have an opinion about the Health White Paper, you can take part in our health webchat with the government’s National Clinical Director for Primary Care on Monday 6 February.
Out of the darkness
Looking back on his six-month Presidency of the EU, the PM also looked to the future of Europe saying there has never been a better time to be optimistic about Europe and enthusiastic about Britain’s place in it. He said that the Union has emerged from a ‘darkened room’ into a brighter future.
Mr Blair also held a reception for a number of footballing legends at Downing Street in honour of the World Cup 2006 organising committee.
