The Queen has approved the nomination of the Right Reverend Alan Gregory Clayton Smith MA PhD, Area Bishop of Shrewsbury, for election as Bishop of St Albans in succession to the Right Reverend Christopher William Herbert BA PGCE, DLitt, MPhil, PhD who resigns on 7 January 2009.
