Gordon Brown and Children’s Secretary Ed Balls visited a school in south west London this morning to see how it is sharing expertise in a bid to raise standards.

The Open University is to receive an extra £12 million in funding to develop its role as a national leader in distance learning, the Prime Minister has said.

“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to remind his government that parents must remain responsible in law for ensuring the welfare and education of their children and that the state should not seek to appropriate these responsibilities.”

Northern Ireland, child trafficking and the Gurkhas were on the agenda at PMQs.

Parents will be given more say in the way their children’s schools are run under Government proposals.
