Britons who saved the lives of Jews and other persecuted groups during the Holocaust have been honoured with a new award in recognition of their bravery.

The Prime Minister has released a message to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2010.

The Prime Minister has described former British Prisoner of War at Auschwitz-Birkenau, Denis Avey, as a truly remarkable man, after meeting him in the run up to Holocaust Memorial Day.

“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to review the statutes governing the honours system to allow recognition for Frank Foley and other British heroes of the Holocaust.”
