Mile End Group

The Mile End Group of Queen Mary, University of London, is a unit which hosts events looking at all aspects of British central government, past and present. It was created by students of Lord Hennessy of Nympsfield and its Director is now Dr Jon Davis, a founder member. It is run by postgraduate students and is funded by Hewlett Packard. The MEG’s main focus is on the machinery of government, defence and security, energy, finance and economics, and technology. The MEG also conducts teaching at QM on ultra-contemporary governmental history.

History & Policy (H&P)

History & Policy is an independent initiative, based at King’s College London, which promotes engagement between historians and policy makers to increase understanding of the background to, and possible solutions for, today’s policy issues.  It supports a network of 350 historians based at UK universities who are willing and able to engage with current policy discussion. The History & Policy website hosts 128 freely available policy papers in which historians explore policy issues ranging from the economic crisis to climate change and welfare reform.

As an independent initiative, part funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, H&P is collaborating with Number 10 Downing Street on a voluntary basis as part of its mission to improve public policy through a better understanding of history.
