Dean of Exeter appointed

Reverend Canon Jonathan Lee Draper, BA, PhD has been appointed Dean of Exeter.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Jonathan Lee Draper, BA, PhD, Residentiary Canon of York Minster, to be appointed to the Deanery of the Cathedral Church of St Peter in Exeter, on the elevation of the Very Reverend Cyril Jonathan Meyrick as Suffragan Bishop of Lynn on 2 June 2011.

The Reverend Canon Jonathan Draper (aged 59) studied first at Gordon College Mass USA and then at St John’s College Durham. He trained for the ministry at Ripon College, Cuddesdon and served his title at Brooklands, in Manchester diocese from 1983 to 1985. From 1985 to 1992 he was Director of Academic Studies at Ripon College, Cuddesdon. From 1992 to 2000 he was Vicar of Putney in Southwark diocese. Since 2000 he has been Canon Residentiary at York Minster.  

Jonathan is married to Maggie who is a senior manager in the health service and they have three children, Katherine (21), Jamie (19) and Elizabeth (16).

His interests include theological education at all levels, working as a Trustee of the mental health and development charity BasicNeeds as well as walking, watching rugby and the company and hospitality of family and friends.
