PM comments on Cumbria shootings
Prime Minister David Cameron has said everything possible must be done to prevent a repeat of the shootings in Cumbria.
Speaking during a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper today, Mr Cameron said everyone should be thinking of the “appalling suffering” the people of West Cumbria have been through.
It was announced today that the PM and Home Secretary Theresa May will visit the county tomorrow and meet senior police officers.
Twelve people are known to have died in the attack, as well as the alleged gunman, Derrick Bird.
The PM said:
We must do absolutely everything to complete this investigation, to make sure that everything is done to make sure that events like this cannot happen again in our country, and to help bring those communities back together.
Speaking at Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday, Mr Cameron had pledged that the Government would do “everything it can” to help those affected.
He added:
When lives and communities are shattered in this way, our thoughts should be with all those caught up in these tragic events, especially the families and friends of those killed or injured.
Earlier, the Home Secretary sent her “heartfelt condolences” to those affected by the shootings as she made a statement in Parliament about the incident.
