PM holds talks with President of the European Council

Prime Minister David Cameron has met the European Union's President Herman Van Rompuy for talks in Downing Street.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The PM and European Council President discussed the upcoming EU Council meeting in Brussels and the UK’s priorities for the upcoming G20 Summit.

Following the meeting the PM’s spokesperson said:

The PM and Herman Van Rompuy met this morning.  This, their first meeting, was an opportunity to discuss the upcoming EU Council’s agenda. 

The Prime Minister reiterated the crucial role all countries in the EU have in working together to face the global challenges - maintaining competitiveness, trade, tackling climate change and poverty, and on foreign policy issues.  It was also an opportunity for the Prime Minister to set out the UK’s priorities for the upcoming G20 summit, including fiscal consolidation, financial regulation and the reinvigoration of global trade.

 The next EU Council meeting will take place on 17 June.
