PM meets King Abdullah II of Jordan

Prime Minister David Cameron met King Abdullah II Bin al-Hussein of Jordan this afternoon, accompanied by the Foreign Secretary and the Jordanian Foreign Minister, Nasser Judeh.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

Mr Cameron and King Abdullah of Jordan spoke about a number of matters relating to Jordan and the Middle East.

A Downing Street Spokesman said:

The Prime Minister welcomed the close partnership between the two countries, and paid tribute to the ongoing and active Jordanian role in the mission to protect civilians in Libya and implement the Security Council Resolution 1973.  The King and the Prime Minister agreed on the importance of early and credible negotiations for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The Prime Minister set out his view of the need for governments in the region to meet the aspirations of Arab people for more open and democratic societies with credible processes of political and economic reform. He welcomed King Abdullah’s leadership of the reform agenda in Jordan, welcoming the steps taken in recent months, including the establishment of a National Dialogue Committee.  The King and the Prime Minister agreed on the importance of sustained progress and timely implementation.  The Prime Minister said that the UK would support the reform process in response to Jordanian requests, including through the FCO’s new Arab Partnership Fund.
