Libya: International conference in Paris announced

Prime Minister David Cameron and President Sarkozy have invited the National Transitional Council to attend an international conference in Paris next week.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The meeting will be an opportunity to help the National Transitional Council on the path to establishing a free, democratic and inclusive Libya.

A Downing Street spokesperson said:

Following the PM’s discussions with the Chairman of the National Transitional Council (NTC), Abdul Jalil, and other international partners, the Prime Minister and President Sarkozy have invited the NTC to attend an international conference in Paris next week.

This will be an opportunity for the NTC to set out how the international community can help them on the path to establishing a free, democratic and inclusive Libya and for all those who wish to support Libya to discuss the role that they can play to support this.

We have stood firmly by the Libyan people since their uprisings began six months ago and we will continue to lead international efforts to help them achieve their aspirations in the weeks and months ahead.
