National Portrait Gallery board member appointed

C. Allegra Berman has been appointed to the Board of the National Portrait Gallery.

The Prime Minister has appointed C. Allegra Berman to the Board of the National Portrait Gallery for a period of 4 years from 1 August 2011.

Biographical Details

C. Allegra Berman is an Investment Banker at UBS Investment Bank. She is a Vice Chairman of Global Capital Markets, Global Head of Sovereign, Supranational & Agency Fixed Income and Co-Head of European Debt Capital Markets. 

At UBS Allegra has been involved in corporate fundraising events including persuading UBS to sponsor events such as the National Portrait Gallery Gala dinner and select other corporate events. Allegra has been featured in the Financial News “Top 100 most influential women in European finance” and “Top 100 rising stars” for several years.

1. We were looking for a person with strong financial skills and experience of investment opportunities. 

2. The National Portrait Gallery holds the largest and most distinguished collection of portraits in the world. The principal aim is to promote through the medium of portraits the appreciation and understanding of the men and women who have made and are making British history and culture, and to promote the appreciation and understanding of portraiture in all media. As an institution it fulfils a number of roles relating to the historic and contemporary aspects of this collection: a research and academic role, an educational role, and a wider role within public life.

3. The posts are not remunerated. Reasonable expenses can be claimed.

4. The appointments have been made in accordance with the OCPA Code of Practice. Appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. Allegra Berman has not undertaken any significant political activity in the UK during the past five years.
