Prime Minister appoints Louise Casey CB as the Head of New Troubled Families Team

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The Prime Minister today announced the appointment of Louise Casey CB as the Head of a new Troubled Families Team to drive forward the Prime Minister’s commitment to turn around the lives of 120,000 most troubled families.

Reporting to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles, and working closely with other Ministers across government, Casey has been tasked with delivering tangible, measurable and rapid progress towards meeting this commitment within the course of this Parliament, building on the work of the troubled family pilots.

Mr Cameron said:

”I am determined that we will turn around the lives of these troubled families because to build strong communities, we have to start with parenting and families.

Tens of thousands of pounds are spent on these families but no one is getting involved and dealing with these families to turn their lives around. We must address the underlying causes, not just the symptoms. That is why I am so pleased that Louise Casey is going to lead this work with Eric and make sure we see real results

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Eric Pickles said:

I am delighted to welcome Louise to the Department to carry out this vital piece of work. This will be a complex challenge. I am determined that we will put the full force of Government behind getting these extremely troubled families back on the straight and narrow.

Louise Casey CB said:

”This is a huge challenge for me but an area in which I feel I have a lot of expertise and passion. A number of approaches will be needed to get these families lives back on track - to end their criminality, to get kids back into school, get parents ready to work and reduce costs for the taxpayer. If we get this right, we could all benefit.

Notes to Editors:
