The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Alan Peter Winton, BA, PhD, Team Rector of Welwyn in the diocese of St Albans, and honorary Canon pf St Albans Abbey to the Suffragan See of Thetford, in the Diocese of Norwich, in succession to the Right Reverend David John Atkinson, BSc, AKC, PhD, MLitt, MA, MSOSc, on his resignation on the 16th September 2009.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Right Reverend Paul Roger Butler BA, Suffragan Bishop of Southampton, for election as Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham in succession to the Right Reverend George Henry Cassidy BSc, MPhil, who resigns in September 2009.

The Prime Minister has appointed William Day as the new Chair of the UK Sustainable Development Commission (SDC). Mr Day takes over from Jonathan Porritt on 27 July 2009 for a period of three years.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Mark Crispin Rake Sowerby, BD, AKC, MA, Team Rector of St Wilfrid Harrogate, in the diocese of Ripon and Leeds, to the Suffragan See of Horsham, in the Diocese of Chichester, in succession to the Right Reverend Lindsay Goodall Urwin, MA, who resigned on the 28 February 2009.
