Suffragan See of Brixworth

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon John Edward Holbrook, MA, Rector of Wimborne Minster, Priest-in-Charge of Witchampton, Stanbridge and Long Crichel and Priest-in-Charge of Horton, Chalbury, Hinton Martel and Holt Saint James in the diocese of Salisbury, Chaplain South and East Dorset Primary Care Trust, Rural Dean of Wimborne, and Canon and Prebendary Salisbury Cathedral, to the Suffragan See of Brixworth, in the Diocese of Peterborough, in succession to the Right Reverend Francis White, BSc(Econ), on his resignation on the 27 November 2010.

Notes for Editors

The Reverend Canon John Holbrook (aged 48), studied at St Peter’s College, Oxford and then trained for the ordained ministry at Ridley Hall, Cambridge. He served his first curacy at St Mary’s Barnes, in Southwark Diocese from 1986 to 1989. From 1989 to 1992 he was Curate at St Mary’s Bletchley and Whaddon Way Ecumencial Church in Oxford diocese. From 1993 to 2002 he was Vicar at Adderbury with Milton. From 2000 to 2002 he was Rural Dean at Deddington. Since 2002 he has been Rector at Wimborne Minster in Salisbury diocese, and also Priest-in-Charge at Witchampton, Stanbridge and Long Crichel in Salisbury diocese. From 2002 he has been Chaplain of the South and East Dorset Primary Care Trust. From 2006 he has also been Priest-in-Charge at Horton, Chalbury, Hinton Martel and Holt Saint James in the diocese of Salisbury.. From 2004 he has been Rural Dean at Wimborne. Since 2006 he has been Canon and Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.

Canon John Holbrook is married to Elizabeth. They have two children.    

His interests include reading, listening to music, the Middle East, sailing and Bristol City Football Club.
