More digital communication from the Prime Minister: PM joins Foursquare and LinkedIn
Prime Minister David Cameron has joined LinkedIn, the social networking tool used by many professionals around the world.
The move onto the network, which has over 120 million members, is part of a move to engage further with citizens and businesses using digital communications.
Number 10 has been in contact with a number of professionals who attended the Women on Boards reception at Downing Street last night inviting them to connect with the Prime Minister. It is the intention that Downing Street will continue to connect via LinkedIn with people and businesses the PM meets regarding UK business, enterprise and manufacturing.
This follows the Prime Minister’s recent use of Foursquare, a location-based social network that is gaining popularity around the world. Today he checked in at BP’s North Sea HQ in Aberdeen. He also checked in at the United Nations General Assembly in New York during his recent visit. Downing Street’s Foursquare presence supplies information to visitors and tourists checking-in there. Checking-in helps illustrate the events the Prime Minister participates in during his day-to-day duties beyond Downing Street.
Downing Street has also significantly enhanced its owned digital communications channels. It is already on Facebook and has over 1.85 million followers on Twitter. Monday’s immigration policy speech by the Prime Minister saw integrated digital coverage on the Number 10 site. Live video of the speech was streamed alongside live tweeting. And comments from Facebook and Twitter were integrated. In addition, explanatory infographics illustrating key aspects of the policy were also made available to share.
