Suffragan Bishop of Bradwell

The Venerable John Michael Wraw, Archdeacon of Wilts, appointed to the Suffragan See of Bradwell.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Venerable John Michael Wraw, BA, Archdeacon of Wilts in the Diocese of Salisbury, to the Suffragan See of Bradwell in the Diocese of Chelmsford, in succession to the Right Reverend Laurence Alexander Green, BD, AKC, DMin, New York Theologican Seminary STM, on his resignation on the 28 February 2011.

The Venerable John Wraw (aged 52) studied Law at Lincoln College, Oxford and then trained for the ministry in Cambridge, at Fitzwilliam College and Ridley Hall. He served his first Curacy at Bromyard, in Hereford diocese. From 1988 he moved to the Diocese of Sheffield, as Team Vicar of Sheffield Manor. From 1992 to 2001 he was Vicar at Clifton St James. From 2001 to 2004 he was Priest-in-Charge of Wickersley. While in Rotherham, John was Chair of the Diocesan Faith and Justice Committee and served as Chair of Voluntary Action Rotherham. From 1998 to 2004 he was Area Dean of Rotherham, and from 2001 to 2004 he was an Honorary Canon of Sheffield Cathedral. Since 2004 he has been Archdeacon of Wilts in Salisbury Diocese. He is currently Chair of the Wiltshire Local Strategic Partnership.

He is married to Gillian and they have four children.

The Venerable John Wraw’s interests include the theatre and walking, and since crewing in the 2009 - 2010 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, sailing!
