The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Glyn Hamilton Webster, SRN, to the Suffragan See of Beverley, in the Diocese of York

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Reverend Canon Glyn Hamilton Webster, SRN, presently Acting Dean of York and Canon Chancellor and Canon Residentiary of York Minster, in the diocese of York, to the Suffragan See of Beverley, in the Diocese of York, in succession to the Right Reverend Martyn William Jarrett, BD, AKC, MPhil, on his resignation on the 30 September 2012. Beverley is the See reserved for the Provincial Episcopal Visitor for the Northern Province.

The Reverend Canon Glyn Webster (aged 61), trained for the ordained ministry at Crammer Hall, Durham. He served his curacy at Huntington, in York Diocese from 1977 to 1981. From 1981 to 1992 he was Vicar at St Luke York. From 1981 to 1992 he was Chaplain York District Hospital and from 1992 to 1999 he was Senior Chaplain York Health Services NHS Trust. He was Canon and Prebendary of York Minster from 1994 to 1999. He was Rural Dean of City of York from 1997 to 2004. From 2005 to 2010 he was Associate Diocesan Director of Ordinands. Since 1999 he has been Canon Residentiary of York Minster. He was elected as a Member of General Synod in 1995. Since 2000 to the present he has served as Prolocutor of the Lower House of the Convocation of York and also as a Member of the Archbishops’ Council.

Canon Webster is single.

His interests include keeping up with friends, holidaying as often as possible in Italy.
