Suffragan See of Lynn

The Very Reverend Cyril Jonathan Meyrick MA is nominated to the Suffragan See of Lynn.

The Queen has approved the nomination of the Very Reverend Cyril Jonathan Meyrick MA, Dean of Exeter Cathedral and Priest-in-Charge of Central Exeter in the Diocese of Exeter, to the Suffragan See of Lynn, in the Diocese of Norwich, in succession to the Right Reverend James Henry Langstaff, on his translation to the See of Rochester on 3 November 2010.

The Very Reverend Jonathan Meyrick (aged 58) studied at St John’s College Oxford and trained for the ministry at Sarum and Wells Theological College.  He served his first Curacy at Bicester, Oxford from 1976 to 1978 and was then Bishop’s Domestic Chaplain from 1978 to 1981.  From 1981 to 1984 he was Tutor in Old Testament studies at Codrington College Barbados. He was Team Vicar of Burnham with Dropmore, Hitcham and Taplow, Oxford, from 1984 to 1990. 

From 1990 to 1998 he was Team Rector of Tisbury, Sarum and Wells, and between 1997 and 1998 he was also Rural Dean of Chalke. From 1998 to 2005 he was Canon Residentiary of Rochester Cathedral serving as Canon Pastor and Acting Dean. Since 2005 he has been Dean of Exeter Cathedral and Priest-in-Charge of Central Exeter.

He is currently also Chairman of the Council for Mission and Unity in Exeter Diocese, Chairman of Cathedrals Plus, a member of the executive of the Association of English Cathedrals and the UK commissary for the Bishop of Bathurst.

He is married to Rebecca and they have one son and two daughters.

Jonathan Meyrick’s interests include acting, singing, theatre, swimming, walking, travel, reading, good food and wine.
