PM Direct in Birmingham

Prime Minister David Cameron has travelled to Birmingham where he answered questions from local residents in his latest PM Direct.

This was published under the 2010 to 2015 Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government

The PM answered questions on a range of subjects ranging from the spending review, local government, education, universities and immigration.

Answering questions on the budget deficit, the PM said:

We have to get the deficit under control because the deficit is sapping confidence from the British economy, it’s building debts for our children, it’s adding to the debt burden.

We have got to demonstrate there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. There will be a stronger, better, well balanced British economy.

Ahead of the event the PM wrote to Birmingham Mail readers outlining his vision for the city.

He said one of the main aims of this coalition government is to “rebalance our economy so that every region, every city, every town can share in our growing prosperity”.
