Trustees to the Board of the National Museum of Science and Industry

Professor Dame Athene Donald, Andreas Goss, Lord Grade and Professor Ludmilla Jordanova have been appointed as trustees to the Board of the National Museum of Science and Industry.

The Prime Minister has appointed Professor Dame Athene Donald, Andreas Goss, Lord Grade and Professor Ludmilla Jordanova as Trustees to the Board of the National Museum of Science and Industry for a period of 4 years from 8 August 2011.

Biographical Details

Professor Dame Athene Donald

Professor Dame Athene Donald is one of the leading scientists in the UK and has been widely recognised for her outstanding contributions to scientific research and to public engagement with science. She was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1999 and in 2010 was elected a Fellow of the Academia Europaea. Professor Donald has held - and continues to hold - a range of very senior responsibilities at Cambridge University, Chairs the Royal Society’s Education Committee and serves on national and international committees for research and professional matters.

Professor Jordanova

Professor Jordanova is a pre-eminent historian of science and medicine, active in research and teaching. She has been President of the leading body in the field, the British Society for the History of Science (1998 to 2000) and of the History of Science Section of the British Association for the Advancement of Science (2006). She was Director of the University of Cambridge Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (2003 to 2005). Professor Jordanova has curated exhibitions and served 8 years as a Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery.

Lord Grade

Lord Grade has had a long and distinguished career in the media. At the BBC he was Controller of BBC1, then Director of Television and Managing Director Designate (1985 to 1987), and has also been Chairman of the BBC Governors and Chairman designate of the BBC Trust. Lord Grade has been Chief Executive of Channel 4 Television Corporation (1988 to 1997) and Executive Chairman of ITV plc. He is a Fellow of BAFTA and of the Royal Television Society.

Mr Andreas Goss

Mr Andreas Goss has led the Siemens UK and North West Europe business UK & Cluster North West Europe since his appointment in June 2008. Siemens UK is one of the largest of Siemens’ regional companies, with revenues of £4.2 billion and around 17,000 UK-based employees. The Cluster North West Europe has approximately €12 billion in revenues and employs more than 35,000 people. Mr Goss was previously the Chief Financial Officer for Siemens in the UK and held various finance posts within Siemens in Germany and the US prior to his move to the UK in 2006.

Lord Grade is a Conservative Peer and has spoken on behalf of the party. Professor Dame Athene Donald, Professor Jordanova and Mr Goss have not undertaken any significant political activity during the past five years.
