Twitter – @Number10gov

The @Number10gov Twitter account is managed by the digital communications team in the Prime Minister’s Office.

We do not use any automation (such as tools which generate tweets from RSS feeds) to post content on Twitter.

 If you follow @Number10gov, you can expect regular tweets covering the following:

  • news stories and press releases
  • speeches and statements by the Prime Minister
  • new photos on our Flickr stream
  • updates from the Prime Minister’s foursquare profile
  • occasional live coverage of events
  • retweets of notable announcements by UK Government Departments

If we follow an account it does not imply endorsement of any kind.

@ messages and direct messages

We review all @ messages every day, but as a general rule we do not reply to them. Even if we do not reply to you directly, that does not mean we aren’t listening to you.

In most circumstances we will not reply to direct messages. The limitations of Twitter’s format mean that we would not be able to give you a full and useful reply.

We cannot engage on issues of party politics.

Twitter and FOI

For Freedom of Information (FOI) requests we will usually ask you to provide email details to reply to and then process the request that way. Where we can reply in 140 characters we may do so.

Facebook

The Prime Minister’s Facebook page is managed by the digital communications team in the Prime Minister’s Office.

The page is used to highlight speeches and announcements from the Prime Minister.

Comments posted on and messages received through this Facebook page are the views of individuals and do not represent the views of the Government.

Facebook moderation policy

We look forward to receiving your comments and participation in the discussions on this page and would like to publish as many as possible. However we do ask that our followers adhere to certain good practices and conventions of polite and constructive dialogue.

This Facebook page is reactively moderated, and we cannot accept responsibility for the content of any comment.

We reserve the right to remove comments that:

  • contain abusive, obscene, indecent or offensive language, or link to obscene or offensive material
  • contain swear words or other sorts of profanity
  • are completely removed from the topic of conversation or are non-relevant to the item posted on the wall
  • contain abusive language towards an individual involved in the thread, other organisations or the page administrator
  • constitute spam or promote or advertise products, except where it is for an event, publication or similar item that has direct relevance to the subject of discussion. Information about locating and sharing knowledge and expertise is welcomed, but within the specific discussion provided
  • are designed to cause nuisance to the page administrator or other users

For serious and/or persistent breaches of the moderation policy, we reserve the right to prevent users from posting further comments.

Flickr

The Prime Minister’s Flickr channel contains pictures from a wide range events, from social engagements at 10 Downing street to international state visits. We ‘geo tag’ each image so you can see where it was taken, and we create sets of pictures for each month and major visit. The Flickr channel is intended as an informal record of the PM’s activities.

We do not allow comments on images, and pictures are subject to copyright and are therefore not available for re-use without permission.
