PM visits Westminster Kingsway College

5 November 2007

Gordon Brown met students from a London College today to highlight Government help for teenagers leaving school without going to a job or further education.

The PM chatted to students in their second year of a Young Apprenticeship in cookery and food preparation about work options and vocational courses.

Mr Brown was joined by Schools Secretary Ed Balls, who will outline the Government’s plans to deal with the long-term problem of teenagers not in education employment or training (NEETs) later today.

The Queen’s Speech will contain proposals for all young people to stay in education or training until 17 by 2013 and 18 by 2015.

The changes aim to equip all young people with the skills they need in a fast changing world.

The PM and Schools Secretary were joined by the Secretary of State for Innovations Universities and Skills, John Denham.
