The Queen has been graciously pleased to signify her intention of conferring a Peerage of the United Kingdom for Life upon Michael Walton Bates.

Mr Bates is Deputy Chairman, Conservative Party (North), Managing Director, Walton Bates Associates Ltd and Director, Vardy Group of Companies.
He was Member of Parliament (Conservative) for Langbaurgh from 1992 to 1997; Parliamentary Private Secretary to Minister of State. DSS, 1992 to 1993, Northern Ireland Office, 1994; an Assistant Government Whip, 1994 to 1995; a Lord Commissioner, HM Treasury, 1995 to 1996 and HM Paymaster General from 1996 to 1997.
