Following the appointment of the Right Honourable Sir Brian Kerr as a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, Her Majesty The Queen has been pleased to approve that The Honourable Mr Justice Morgan be appointed Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland with effect from 3 July 2009.

The Prime Minister has approved eight new appointments to the Security Vetting Appeals Panel.

The Queen has been pleased to appoint Robert William Lowry Scott Esq. OBE JP as Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Tyrone upon the retirement of His Grace the Duke of Abercorn KG on 4 July 2009.

The Queen is pleased to approve the following Ministerial appointments.

The Government has today created a new Department for Business, Innovation and Skills whose key role will be to build Britain’s capabilities to compete in the global economy. The Department will be created by merging BERR and DIUS.

Sir Alan Sugar has been appointed as the Government’s Enterprise Champion.

The Queen has been graciously pleased to signify her intention of conferring a Peerage of the United Kingdom for Life upon David Freud, nominated Shadow Minister for Welfare Reform.

The Prime Minister has approved the re-appointment of The Right Honourable Sir Christopher Rose as Chief Surveillance Commissioner and The Right Honourable Sir Charles Mantell as a Surveillance Commissioner for a further term of three years from 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2012. He has also approved the appointment of The Right Honourable Sir William Gage as a Surveillance Commissioner with effect from 1 September 2009 to 31 August 2012.
